Episode 13 of BBC Gardeners World recently featured a living wall of plants which visitors could add their own plants to. The Living Wall feature shows the types of plants suited to growing vertically in a sunny position, a shady spot and those plants perfect for attracting bees and butterflies into a garden.
Inspired by this feature we have put some useful plant lists together on our Pinterest board:
- Plants suitable for shady planting of a vertical wall
- Plants suitable for sunny planting of a vertical wall
- Plants suitable for attracting wildlife such as bees, butterflies and bugs on a vertical wall
Watch the feature by clicking below.
At the end of the show each wall is being dismantled, transported to a local school and re-assembled where each will grow on and fully develop.

If your interested in creating your own Living Wall The BBC Gardeners World Living Wall was created using Woollypockets. Made out of recycled plastic bottles these Living Wall Planters protect your walls, have a built in water reservoir and allow the roots to breathe.
If you are interested in the Pockets robustness Garden Beet prepared a UK study in 2010 to show the effects on the wall behind the pockets – the study also documents plants used and which ones performed well –
